Germany, Austria and Switzerland Issue New Guidelines for Treatment of Incontinence

We are excited to share with you the news that in December of 2021, the major German-speaking countries of Europe took a big step towards recognizing of the effectiveness and safety of gynecological laser treatments.

New guidelines concerning the treatment of female incontinence were issued by three associations of gynecologists and obstetricians from Germany (DGGG), Austria (OEGGG) and Switzerland (SGGG), placing laser treatment among the accepted approaches to treating mild-to-moderate forms of stress urinary incontinence.

The authors of the guidelines concluded that no significant side effects were observed in any study and that the outpatient procedure is minimally invasive, with high compliance and patient satisfaction rates. Laser procedures are especially recommended for young women with a normal body mass index (BMI) and women between births who want a quick outpatient procedure without surgery.

The complete guidelines (in German language) can be read here: https://www.awmf.org/leitlinien/detail/ll/015-091.html.
