Revolutionizing Skin and Hair Treatments
March 2024
Laser systems are at the forefront of medical innovation, as evidenced by two recently published scientific papers that have garnered significant attention as top downloaded articles on the Wiley publishing platform. These studies highlight breakthrough treatments that are setting new standards in the industry.
The titles of the two papers and short summaries follow below, with links to the original journals where they were published.

Use of Nd:YAG laser in Bruise Resolution caused by an Injectable Dermal Filler Procedure
(authors: Barry Dekeyser, Marijke Wellens, Iva Talaber)
The demand for injectable dermal fillers is on the rise, but so is the need for solutions to the bruising that often accompanies these procedures. Typically, such bruises heal naturally within 10 to 14 days, yet patients are increasingly seeking faster recovery times. This case report showcases the effectiveness of the Nd:YAG laser in accelerating bruise resolution. The treatment involved three sessions in two day intervals, leading to complete bruise resolution within a week. The study concludes that the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, with low-intensity short pulses, is not only effective in reducing healing time but also safe, with no adverse effects reported.

Measurements of Hair Temperature Avalanche Effect with Alexandrite and Nd:YAG Hair Removal Lasers
(authors: Daniele Vella PhD, Matjaž Lukač PhD, Urban Jernejčič MSc, Nejc Lukač PhD, Žan Klaneček MSc, Matija Milanič PhD, Matija Jezeršek PhD).
Understanding the underlying mechanisms of laser hair removal treatments is crucial for enhancing their effectiveness. This study delves into the photothermal response of human hair to pulsed laser treatments, a common method in hair removal.
The findings reveal a unique "avalanche effect," where repeated low-fluence laser passes during treatment cause a gradual, significant increase in hair temperature. This phenomenon may explain the high success rates with this innovative method of laser hair removal, particularly in 'brushing' procedures, and underscores the potential for optimizing treatment protocols for even better results.
These papers not only contribute valuable insights to their respective fields but also underscore LA&HA's commitment to advancing medical technology. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the authors for their groundbreaking work and encourage the broader scientific community to engage with these findings.
